Before Discovery part1-Great Geneious III
Born in Johannesburg in 1992, 2years later after Nelson Mandela’s release from prison, born the same day the American athlete Dan O'Brien sets world record decathlon,2 years before South Africa would witness its first free and fair democratic elections. This is the story of Xolile “Great Geneious III”, born out of wedlock to Nondumiso Mlunguzi as a second born following his sister Ncediswa Mlunguzi .
Xolile was moved to a dusty Eastern cape town little known as Ngqamakhwe,Ngcisininde
in 1993 as Nondumiso Mlunguzi (his mom) could not manage work and new born baby
roles.
Ngqamakhwe,Ngcisininde’s
childhood memories would be when after 2years of first democratic election in
1994 energy was delivered to the rural areas, 1996 the year that
Ngqamakhwe were privileged enough to be
provided with electricity for the first time in their lives, Xolile recall that
special moment when the Eskom people came to install and switch on the plugs to
declare light into the dusty hopeless lives.
His Great Grand Mother Mrs
Mlunguzi Albertina was busy working in the vegetable garden , Xolile went
running to inform his Great Grand MA of this magical surprise, a kiss into his
cheek expressed Mrs Mlunguzi’s joy. At first grade at Sobekwa j.s.s , he was at
Intermediate Phase choir, he sat at front and sang first soprano with girls,
glory days of choral music began with so much enthusiasm filled in his heart.
From 1998-2005 Xolile
attended school at Ngqamakhwe then moved to Butterworth, Vulli-Valley township
in 2006 to further his junior secondary school studies, this is the moment that
saw him leaving choral music to start writing poetry and rap music, he lost
interest in choral and found hip hop as a culture that he could relate more
than any other genre of music.
In 2010 April 27th
marked Xolile’s first public performance as a rapper, it was on the Freedom day
celebration event held at his school, Msobomvu senior secondary school. At 2011 when
he matriculated in highs school he won the best behavior award for history department
sharing the prestige award together with other two students from accounting and
Physics.
In 2012 He enrolled in
fashion design course at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University at Port Elizabeth.
The same year he got a chance of a life time to model for Mohair South Africa at the Absa Kirkwood wilds-fees
festival and got his first cheque as a model. In 2012 he tried modelling as a
hobby since he was in a new city, in the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan , His
biggest gig at that time was definitely the Absa Kirkwood wilds-fees festival
that took place at end June to early July in courtesy of Mohair South Africa.
In
July 4th 2012 he recorded his first song titled “Tweet Ya Love”
produced by Majestic Drama (TrackOfficilazMusic Group)USA, In September 2012 he
was part of the free creative fashion show as a model and
designer then came
October’s gig where he was called by Nabi Tlhalefang (NMMU fashion designer graduate,
Botswana nationality) and Dirk Moggee (NMMU photographer graduate) for a shoot in
the wild, 50km out of PE. He claims that photo shoot changed everything and set
him on a new era as a rapper achieving little things that were leading to
greatness.
As a model his early moments
have been captured by likes of Sasha Hatherly in 2012 , also caught at
backstage by Astrid Bradley in 2013. Fast forward to 2014 now he have a new
music coming up, “Great Geneious III” song as his second impression also introducing
his new name from being Geneious III when he recorded “Tweet Ya Love” now to
Great Geneious III.
“Great Geneious III” the song touches on the personal side
of his life, the loss of his Uncle on May 2013 and the fact that he was away
from home and couldn’t attend funeral, he also jokes around being born out of
wedlock.
He gives few shout out to his childhood late friend Sintu Sikhundla and
yes he has fueled the record with hard punch lines but the public will be the judges to that, he
compares himself to the top selling DJ Heavy K when it comes to “started from
the bottom” hustle.
He is the founder of
House of MA fashion , this year he have a new Urban street wear trade mark
under House of MA called Kick A$$ wear, let the game begin.
